“I won’t date or marry a man who doesn’t help me keep the house clean. If we both be working, we both be cleaning. That “it’s a woman’s job” mindset is just offensive.”

In order to have equality in a relationship both your desires and interests need to be respected. When only one partners desires and interests are met there is an imbalance of power or inequality within the relationship.

An example of this would be a wife that likes to keep a clean house and her husband always leaving his dirty dishes and clothes around for his wife to pick up after him. I won’t date or marry a man who doesn’t help me keep the house clean. If we both be working, we both be cleaning. That “it’s a woman’s job” mindset is just offensive.

Signs there is Inequality in a Relationship

  • One partner’s decisions dominate your relationship. In a healthy relationship, both of you should be able to make the decisions. You should never feel like your opinion doesn’t matter. If your significant other is always the one to decide what the two of you will do or when you can go out with your friends or if you find that you are the one that is always doing all of the housework, this is a red flag.
  • One partner always thinks they are right and are unwilling to compromise. We all have disagreements and that is ok. But what isn’t ok is if one partner refuses to compromise and come up with a working solution. Sometimes you have to agree to disagree. It’s important for both partners to realize that their opinion is no more important than their significant others.

  • Your partner does not make you feel good about exploring your goals, interests or hobbies. It is important for both of you to not only feel comfortable, but also supported by your partner with your goals, interests and hobbies.
  • You don’t feel respected. In order for relationship equality, you have to be respected. Your partner can show disrespect to you by not listening what you have to say, not making you a priority, cutting you down either in private or in public, flirting with other people.

Relationship inequality can lead to many problems and unhappiness. If you feel like you are experiencing inequality in your relationship it is important to discuss this with your significant other. Hopefully, you can sort things out. Healthy relationships are built on mutual respect and everyone deserves to be in a healthy relationship.
