“My goal in life is to be able to go on vacations for like 14 days…twice a month.”

It’s getting to be about 2 or 3 o’clock of your work day and you begin to see yourself as being a little less productive. Maybe you find yourself reading the same sentence on your computer screen for the 5th time or just can’t seem to concentrate.

Your brain is telling you that it is FULL and it NEEDS some downtime. If you want your mind to work at it’s highest potential, you need to rest your mind and this can be done by scheduling some well needed downtime!

3 Step Downtime Guide

1.Schedule it in to your day. When you are at work, you schedule your work meetings. Do the same for scheduling in a well needed and earned vacation.

It doesn’t have to be an extravagant vacation that you spend a lot of money. This can even be just taking the afternoon off of work to get together with a friend that you haven’t seen in a while. The idea is to get away from any work-related activities. Schedule it in and stick to it! My goal in life is to be able to go on vacations for like 14 days…twice a month. ;D

2. Be fully present during your downtime. This means putting away your phone, laptop and anything work related. If you are on call and need to carry your phone with you, just really try to be present when you are not taking a call.

3. Make it a ritual. Every evening, tell yourself that it is time to put down all electronic devices and by totally present in an activity. Have dinner with your family, play a board game, go for a walk, read a good book. You will be amazed at how much this helps to recharge your mind!

It can be quite difficult to tear yourself completely away from work. But just as it is important to make yourself fully present when you are working, it is just as important for your well-being for you to take some well needed downtime. It will allow you mind to recharge, making you perform better and to be more productive at work as well.
