“Man, I would’ve started saving money in Kindergarten if I knew life was like this.”
Have you ever made an impulse buy on something pretty extravagant and regretted it later? How about dated someone that you thought was “the one” and not until you broke up with them did you see that they were wrong for you in so many ways? These are situations that you can definitely say “hindsight is 20/20.” It’s not until you look back at the situation, “hindsight,” that you can reflect and see things more clearly, “20/20.” If you could do things to avoid more regrets in your future, would you?
3 Ways to Avoid Regrets in Your Future
1. Stand up for yourself and what you believe in. You deserve to be treated with love and respect from everyone. If you aren’t, it is important that you let the person know that you will not tolerate their disrespect. If they continue to treat you poorly end the relationship. If you believe in something, don’t let someone talk you out of it. When you do something, make sure that you are doing it for the right reasons and not just to make someone else happy. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your happiness and what you believe in to please someone else.
2. Follow your dreams. Do not surround yourself with others that don’t support you with this. Your true friends and loved one’s will support you with what you want out of life. If you want to go back to school and get a degree, do it! It is even better if you have someone that supports you with this. Make sure that it is YOUR dreams that you are seeking and not someone else’s, just to make them happy. It’s ok to support other people with their hopes and dreams, but just make sure that you are not sacrificing all of yours.
3. Don’t give up. When you are trying to achieve many things in life, you may fail. That is ok. Most people fail several times before they finally succeed. This is where a lot of people later in life have regrets because they give up when they fail. Instead, take your failures as learning experiences. Learn what you can do in the future to avoid the same mistakes again. The important thing is that you don’t give up.
